What are Restorative Dental Services?
Restorative dental care includes procedures that aim to restore the normal function and appearance of your smile.
These procedures can be used to restore your ability to speak clearly and chew properly, or be used to reinforce a tooth that might otherwise be extracted.
This can also include repairing structural problems, such as filling in gaps from missing teeth, and fixing damaged teeth. Additionally, it can include services like periodontal therapy and TMJ treatment aimed to improve your overall oral health.
Depending on what oral health condition you are struggling with, your dentist can determine which restorative treatment option is right for you.
Periodontics
Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the tissues in the mouth, including the gums, gingiva, and periodontal ligament. If the disease is caught early, preventive therapy will likely be recommended. Otherwise, treatment methods depend on the type and severity of the disease.
Dental Bridges
Bridges are a natural-looking tooth replacement option that can provide stability to the teeth surrounding it. Bonded directly to the teeth on either side of the gap, a dental bridge can help preserve the contour of the jawline and restore your ability to chew and speak properly.
Dental Crowns
A crown is a porcelain cap that is placed on top of a tooth to restore its function and appearance. This dental restoration can also be used to attach bridges, cover dental implants, or prevent a cracked tooth from getting worse. They can also help to strengthen a tooth after a root canal treatment.
Dentures
Full, partial, or implant-supported dentures are used to replace missing teeth. Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth in a row, while full dentures replace all of the teeth in the jaw. To provide additional support to the jaw bone, implant-supported dentures are permanently secured in place with implants.
Inlays & Onlays
Inlays and onlays are used when a cavity is too large for a standard filling but too small for a full crown. These dental restorations are custom-made and permanently bonded to your teeth. Inlays are used for the areas between the cusps (protruding bumpy parts) of a tooth while an onlay covers at least one cusp.
Dental Fillings
A dental filling is made up of a tooth-coloured composite material that is used to fill a cavity or repair an otherwise damaged tooth. Fillings can be used on front or back teeth, and can withstand pressure from chewing. The process of getting a filling is relatively quick and simple.
Root Canals
A root canal treats infection in the pulp at the centre of a tooth. During this procedure, your dentist will remove diseased nerves, blood vessels, and tissues from the tooth. By removing bacteria and decay, your dentist can stop a tooth infection from spreading and prevent the need for a tooth extraction.
TMJ Disorder Treatment
The temporomandibular joint (or TMJ) is a hinge that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. Disorder of the joint, caused by genetics, arthritis, jaw disease, and other factors, can cause this joint to become painful. Our dentists can test for, diagnose, and provide a treatment plan for TMJ Disorder.
